South Devon AONB is part of a family of protected landscapes across Britain, which also includes Dartmoor National Park. There are 46 AONBs in the UK. These areas are protected to keep them special now and for the future. They are wonderful for wildlife and scenery but also places where people live, work, relax and take care of the countryside.
The South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty was designated by government in 1960. It covers 60 glorious miles of coastline, estuaries and countryside between Plymouth and Torbay.
